Amazon Adds 100+ Shopping Features to Alexa Ahead of Holiday Season
Alexa now handles shopping lists, recurring deliveries, drop-off instructions and payment issues—not just orders. Announced Oct. 29, the update follows an eightfold rise in agentic-feature use and 400M Alexa shoppers in 12 months.
Amazon has added more than 100 new shopping-related capabilities to Alexa, giving users the ability to manage lists, handle subscriptions, update delivery instructions, and resolve payment issues through the AI assistant.
The update, announced on October 29, 2026, arrives ahead of the holiday shopping season. With the new features, users can ask Alexa to create and register shopping lists, view list contents, and add or edit items. Subscription management is also now supported — for example, a user can ask Alexa to change a recurring delivery from monthly to every three months. Delivery instructions can also be updated through Alexa, including changing an address or adding drop-off details.
Users can additionally ask Alexa questions about their Prime or Audible subscriptions, as well as get help with billing or payment issues.
Amazon noted that the number of people using agentic features on Alexa has grown eightfold since the start of the year. Over the past 12 months, more than 400 million consumers have used Alexa for shopping. The company has rolled out several AI-focused shopping tools this year, including a shopping assistant and a feature that notifies users about new products and offers.
The expansion of Alexa’s shopping capabilities may reflect Amazon’s broader push to position the assistant as a more active tool for managing purchases and account details, rather than simply answering questions or placing one-off orders.
