Anthropic announced in October 2026 an expansion of its Claude for Startups program, offering qualifying companies a free year of its Claude Team plan along with $1,000 in API credits for building with Claude.

The updated program launched as part of Anthropic’s SF Tech Week event. It provides up to five premium seats on Claude Team, Anthropic’s paid plan for groups, plus access to Claude Marketplace, which allows companies to build plug-ins for the service. Participants can also schedule virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team.

To be eligible, a company must have been founded within the last five years or received funding within the last two years. Interested startups can apply through the Claude for Startups program page.

Anthropic described its reasoning for the program in an announcement: “We created this program because we believe the benefits of AI will reach most people through the companies that build on top of models, rather than through the models alone. That makes partnering closely with founders and developers central to our mission.”

The expansion may offer a lower-cost path for early-stage companies looking to build AI-powered products on Claude without committing to paid API or team plan costs upfront. By bundling platform access, API credits, marketplace tools, and direct team support, the program could reduce barriers for startups evaluating which AI provider to build on.
