Anthropic introduced Claude Tag in June 2026, an always-on AI feature that lives inside Slack and acts as a shared teammate for enterprise and team customers. The feature is currently available in research preview for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team subscribers.

Claude Tag allows users to mention @Claude in Slack channels to request insights or assign tasks. When given a task, Claude breaks it into stages, works through them using whatever tools it has been granted access to, and posts results back into the Slack thread. The feature also includes an ambient mode, in which Claude proactively joins conversations, flags relevant information from across the organization, and follows up on tasks or threads that have gone unaddressed.

A key distinction from earlier integrations — such as direct messaging @Claude or using Claude Code in Slack — is persistent context and memory. “As Claude follows along with its channel, it learns ever more about the work,” Anthropic said in a statement. Claude can also be granted permission to read other channels and pull in relevant facts from elsewhere in the organization.

Each Claude identity is shared across everyone in a given channel, meaning any team member can see what Claude has been working on and continue from where a colleague left off. System administrators control which tools, channels, and information each Claude instance can access. Anthropic notes that a Claude configured for legal work, for example, cannot carry memories into an engineering channel.

The emphasis on organizational context reflects a broader competitive dynamic in enterprise AI. Anthropic noted that Microsoft, through Copilot and Work IQ, is also focused on organizational context, as are Snowflake, Databricks, and Glean, each positioning their platforms to capture and surface company knowledge for AI agents.
