Anthropic Unifies Claude Chat and Cowork Into a Single Interface

Anthropic merged its Claude chat and Cowork interfaces into a single unified experience in September 2026, giving users access to chat, Cowork, and Artifacts — Claude’s interactive workspace feature — within one window.

Previously, users had to choose between separate tabs for different tasks, which Anthropic said caused confusion about which feature to use. The new design removes that friction by having Claude automatically route requests to the appropriate part of the app, eliminating the need to switch tabs or windows manually.

Claude Design, introduced in April for website and prototype design, is also available throughout the unified interface. Anthropic is additionally rolling out dedicated tools for creating presentations and documents. Users can ask Claude to create, edit, and present slides, and download finished presentations as PDF or PowerPoint files. A companion Docs feature lets users build documents alongside Claude, add sections, ask questions, and comment on completed portions. Both documents and slides can be shared via link and edited on mobile.

The update also supports cross-device workflows — users can start a document on desktop and monitor its progress through the mobile app.

The rollout is initially limited to Pro and Max plan subscribers, available on web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks. Anthropic plans to extend the features to free and team tiers at a later date.

The changes follow a recent upgrade to Cowork’s memory layer, which allows Claude to retain user context across separate chat sessions. Together, the updates suggest Anthropic is consolidating its product surface to reduce complexity and encourage broader use of its AI tools within a single interface.
