Anthropic Upgrades Claude Voice Mode With Multi-App Support and More Powerful Models

Anthropic updated Claude’s voice mode in July 2026, giving users access to more capable AI models and the ability to control third-party apps through voice commands.

Previously, Claude’s voice mode ran exclusively on the Haiku model, which handled quick responses but was not well suited for complex tasks. With the update, users can now choose between the Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku models. By default, voice mode selects the fastest version of whichever model a user last used in text chat.

The more significant addition is app integration. Claude’s voice mode can now connect to Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion, allowing users to reschedule meetings, draft emails, or create documents using voice commands. Anthropic says the updated voice mode also supports longer conversations, including talking through a client pitch or brainstorming product market research.

This capability sets Claude apart from OpenAI’s voice mode, which the company updated around the same time with a new family of conversational models but has not extended to third-party tool use, according to the source.

Anthropic also confirmed that multilingual support, added earlier in 2026 in beta, is now available. Users must manually specify their language. Supported languages include English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin American and Spanish Spanish.

The updated voice mode is available in beta to all users across platforms. Free-tier users are limited to the Haiku model and a single connected app. Anthropic did not change the underlying voice model itself and has not disclosed details about its voice stack, meaning conversational improvements such as better interruption handling may not be part of this release.
