Apple releases iOS 27.2 with Apple Pencil support for iPhone Duo and expanded Siri languages
Released in October 2026, the update adds Apple Pencil support and Edge Light video-call illumination to iPhone Duo. Siri gains Messages actions and French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, while FaceTime adds dual capture.
Apple released iOS 27.2 in October 2026, bringing Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo alongside a range of other updates to its software ecosystem.
The update delivers on a commitment Apple had previously made, having said the iPhone Duo would gain Apple Pencil support “later this year.” The new version also introduces an “Edge Light” feature for the iPhone Duo, designed to illuminate a user’s face during video calls.
Beyond the iPhone Duo additions, iOS 27.2 expands Siri AI capabilities. The assistant can now take suggested actions in Messages, and support has been extended to additional languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Apple is also rolling out support for Google’s SynthID AI watermark in Photos and Image Playground, according to 9to5Mac.
Several app-level changes are included in the update as well. The Apple TV app on iPhone gains user profiles. Apple Podcasts is replacing its “Up Next” queue with a “New Episodes” list, accompanied by a “Continue Playing” section beneath it. The update also introduces a new Apple Music logo. FaceTime group calls now support dual capture, allowing users to simultaneously share footage from both the front-facing and rear cameras.
The addition of Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo and the broader Siri language expansion may widen the appeal of both the device and Apple’s AI features to a larger international audience, though the full extent of user uptake remains to be seen.
