Apple Watch Audio Intelligence Features Enter Beta Testing in November 2026
Apple’s beta adds four opt-in AI tools for Series 12, including Live Rewind, which shows the last 15 seconds of speech after a double-press and auto-deletes snippets after 30 seconds. Siri Recaps summarizes conversations without storing raw audio.
Apple began rolling out beta access to its new “Audio Intelligence” features for Apple Watch in November 2026, making them available first to developers as part of the iOS 27.3 update. The features were originally announced at Apple’s Surprise and Shine hardware event in September 2026.
The update introduces four opt-in AI features for Apple Watch Series 12 wearers: sound recognition, song identification, Live Rewind, and Siri Recaps. Sound recognition is designed to help deaf and hard-of-hearing users detect important sounds such as sirens, alarms, and doorbells. Song identification uses Apple’s Shazam app to name music playing nearby.
The two conversation-focused features are more notable. Live Rewind lets users double-press the digital crown to see a text snippet of the last 15 seconds of speech. An audible chime and on-screen animation play when the feature is triggered, signaling to nearby people that audio has been captured. Snippets delete automatically after 30 seconds unless saved to the Siri app.
Siri Recaps goes further by generating summarized notes from conversations — including bullet points highlighting key dates, deadlines, or pricing information — without storing raw audio or producing word-for-word transcripts. Apple says the feature is designed to omit sensitive information such as financial data, government identifiers, and language related to self-harm. Users can save recaps to the Notes or Journal app, or let them delete automatically within seven days.
Apple says the features are processed through a combination of the S11 chip’s secure enclave, on-device iPhone processing, and Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, with no raw audio accessible to Apple. The company adds that the features should not affect battery life on either the watch or iPhone.
The Audio Intelligence features are compatible with Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. A public beta is expected before a broader rollout to all users.
