Blacksmith, a platform that helps companies build and test software — including AI-generated code — announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, a $66 million Series C funding round led by Sequoia that values the company at $1 billion, making it the latest startup to reach unicorn status.

The round was announced by co-founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash, who said Blacksmith was founded to make continuous integration (CI) — the process of building, testing, merging, and validating code changes — “less painful.” In a blog post, Jayaprakash noted that “most companies are struggling to keep up with the volume of CI they need to run,” a challenge he said is intensifying as more code is written by AI agents. “As agents write more of the world’s software, the question that matters is whether it can be trusted,” he wrote.

Along with the funding announcement, Blacksmith reported that its annual recurring revenue has grown 17x and that it has processed over 90 million CI jobs — individual automated code checks. Customers include Mercury and Granola.

The Series C follows a rapid fundraising trajectory. The company closed a $45 million Series B just two months ago, at a $550 million valuation. A year prior, it was valued at $60 million following a $10 million Series A. Blacksmith has now raised $125 million in total.

The speed of Blacksmith’s valuation growth — from $60 million to $1 billion in roughly one year — suggests strong investor confidence in the demand for tools that can manage and validate the increasing volume of AI-generated code in software development pipelines.
