ChatGPT Adds Virtual Clothing Try-On and Favorites Features for Shoppers
ChatGPT now lets shoppers upload selfies or full-body photos to preview clothing and accessories, with a “Try On” button in results and support for item screenshots. A Favorites Library saves products and try-on images, powered by ChatGPT Images 2.5.
OpenAI announced in October 2026 the global launch of two new shopping features for ChatGPT: a virtual try-on tool that lets users see how clothing and accessories look on them using their own photos, and a Favorites library for saving products discovered through the app.
The virtual try-on feature works by allowing users to upload a selfie or full-body photo, which ChatGPT then uses to visualize how a selected item might look on them. A new “Try On” button appears within ChatGPT’s shopping results, and users can also upload an image of an item — such as a web screenshot — and ask the assistant to apply it to their photo. The Favorites feature lets users save products to a Library within the app, where try-on images are also stored.
Both features are powered by ChatGPT Images 2.5, a newly launched model that OpenAI says produces more natural lighting and richer textures, follows editing instructions more reliably, and reduces image generation latency.
Beyond try-on, ChatGPT can also help users describe a style they want and shop for the individual pieces needed to complete it, or analyze photos of celebrities’ outfits and locate those items for purchase online. The latter capability places ChatGPT in territory that Pinterest and Google have occupied as fashion discovery platforms that drive sales for online retailers.
The new features arrive as AI assistants broadly explore consumer shopping use cases. OpenAI itself previously pulled back from an instant checkout feature after it underperformed. The company is also entering a space where competition already exists — Google launched its own virtual try-on feature last year — meaning whether ChatGPT will become users’ preferred tool for this activity remains an open question.
