Discord Updates Markdown Previews, Adds Server Organization Tools and Larger File Uploads

Discord’s October 22 update makes shared .md files render tables and formatting instead of raw symbols, aiding users who exchange AI instructions and context. It also adds “Move to…” organization and raises Nitro upload limits to 1GB.

Discord released an update on October 22, 2026, that fixes how Markdown files appear when shared on the platform. Uploaded Markdown (.md) files will now render correctly — including tables and formatting — rather than displaying as raw symbols.

“When you upload a Markdown (.md) file, you’ll now see the file rendered all nice and neat and pretty instead of with a bunch of symbols,” Discord said in its announcement. “This includes tables, formatting, all that good stuff.”

The improvement could be particularly useful for users sharing AI-related materials on the platform. LLMs and AI agents often rely on Markdown files for instructions and context, making accurate previews more practical for those collaborating on AI projects through Discord.

The update also introduces a new server and channel organization feature. Users can now right-click a server icon in the sidebar and select a “Move to…” option to reorder their servers and channels more easily.

Additionally, Discord Nitro subscribers will now be able to upload files as large as 1GB, a significant increase for users who regularly share large files through the platform.

Discord is not alone in expanding Markdown support. Google recently began allowing users to edit Markdown files directly in Google Docs without converting them to the Docs format first, a separate development that signals broader interest in native Markdown compatibility across major platforms.
