Eric Schmidt Holds ~1% Stake in Anthropic, Worth Up to $20 Billion if IPO Hits $2 Trillion Valuation

Eric Schmidt owns about 1% of Anthropic—roughly half CEO Dario Amodei’s stake—after investing tens of millions in its 2021 Series A, when the company was valued at $461 million. A 2026 IPO at $2 trillion could make it worth $20 billion.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt owns approximately 1% of AI lab Anthropic, a stake he acquired by investing tens of millions of dollars in the company’s Series A round in 2021, Bloomberg reported on October 20, 2026. Anthropic was valued at $461 million at the time of that investment, according to PitchBook data.

Schmidt’s reported stake is notable in comparison to the 2% held by Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei, making Schmidt’s ownership roughly half that of the company’s chief executive.

Anthropic is widely expected to go public before the end of 2026. Top-end market estimates value the company at as much as $2 trillion. If that valuation is reached, Schmidt’s stake could add as much as $20 billion to his net worth, which Bloomberg currently puts at $57.5 billion.

Schmidt has been an active technology investor since stepping down as Google CEO in 2011. He deploys capital through several entities, including Tomorrow Ventures, Innovation Endeavors Management, and his family office, Hillspire. His other AI-related investments include Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI.

Neither Schmidt nor Anthropic responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
