Facebook Adds AI-Powered Feed Customization Tool Called Your Algorithm
Meta says Facebook recommendations now adapt within the same session after users tap “interested,” “not interested,” or describe preferences in their own words. The October 2026 rollout covers Feed and Reels and uses LLMs to interpret interests, context, and intent.
Facebook is rolling out a new feature called “Your Algorithm” that lets users directly control the topics shown in their feed and Facebook Reels. Meta announced the feature in October 2026, expanding a tool that had already launched on Instagram earlier that year.
Users can access Your Algorithm through the three-dot menu on individual posts, or by tapping “interested” or “not interested” buttons that may appear beneath posts. Meta says recommendations “respond right away” after a user makes updates, adapting within the same session in real time.
The feature goes beyond simple topic toggles. Meta says it may ask follow-up questions for more detail on what a user liked or disliked, and that users can describe their preferences in their own words. “You can easily tell us, in your own words, what you want to see more or less of, and your recommendations will update in real time,” the company states.
Your Algorithm is part of a broader set of AI-powered tools Meta says it is using to shape what Facebook users see. The company says it is also incorporating large language models (LLMs) more heavily into its ranking systems. According to Meta, “LLMs can incorporate the interests, context, and intent behind natural language, unlocking an algorithm you can actually talk to.”
Meta has introduced similar controls across its other platforms. Your Algorithm launched on Instagram earlier in 2026, and a comparable feature called “Dear Algo” was released on Threads.
For Facebook users, the change could offer more direct influence over their feeds than the platform’s traditional passive signals — such as likes and watch time — have historically allowed.
