Google Adds Animated AI Persona to Gemini 3.8 Live for Enterprise Users
Available only to Gemini Enterprise customers, Live Avatar supports 97 languages, switches between them, and lip-syncs facial expressions in real time. Google plans preset and custom avatars, with SynthID watermarking on every output.
Google has updated its Gemini 3.8 Live model with a feature called Live Avatar, which displays an animated AI persona that lip-syncs and shows facial expressions in real time during conversations. The feature was announced in 2026 and is currently available only to Gemini Enterprise customers.
Live Avatar supports 97 languages and can switch between them, according to Google, without degrading video quality or introducing visual inconsistencies. A video shared by Google demonstrates the avatar speaking in both English and Japanese, with mouth animation aligned to speech in each language. The feature can also display information on-screen while the avatar is talking.
The Live Avatar launch follows roughly one week after Google introduced the Gemini 3.8 Live model, which the company describes as capable of processing visual inputs in near real-time. Google plans to offer a library of preset avatars for enterprise customers to choose from, while also allowing organizations to build their own custom avatars.
All output from Live Avatar includes Google’s invisible SynthID watermark, and the company says safeguards are in place to “respect identity.”
The feature’s enterprise-only availability suggests Google is initially targeting business and organizational use cases rather than general consumers. The ability for organizations to create custom avatars may appeal to companies looking to deploy AI-driven customer service or communication tools with a branded visual presence.
