Google Launches Universal Gemini Agent for Enterprise Work Tasks

Google’s enterprise Gemini agent keeps context across mobile, desktop, web, Slack and Microsoft 365, while working inside Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets and Calendar. It’s in private preview and can act as a coworker with an @agents.company.com email.

Google announced a “universal” Gemini AI agent in October 2026 designed to handle work tasks across apps and devices from a single interface. The tool was unveiled at the company’s Gemini at Work event and is available within the Gemini Enterprise app.

The agent allows users to chat with Gemini and assign it tasks through one interface, whether they are on a mobile device, desktop computer, the web, or third-party apps such as Slack or Microsoft 365. Because it runs in the cloud, Gemini maintains the same context across all connected devices.

The agent also works directly inside Google Workspace apps including Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar. Google says Gemini can collaborate with job-specific sub-agents to complete tasks and can operate as a “coworker agent” — complete with a dedicated identity and its own “@agents.company.com” email address. The system automatically selects the AI model it determines best fits a given task.

Currently, the Gemini agent is only available to enterprise customers in private preview. Google previously launched a consumer-facing version called Gemini Spark in May 2026, which subscribers can use to perform tasks across Workspace and on the web, though it operates through a separate interface within the Gemini app.

The enterprise launch may offer a glimpse into Google’s broader vision for an AI assistant capable of answering questions and performing work from a single window, potentially expanding beyond its current private preview to a wider audience in the future.
