Google has expanded its AI-powered virtual closet feature in Google Photos to all users in the U.S., Brazil, and India on both Android and iOS devices, as of September 24, 2026. Android users had received access first, beginning in June 2026, following the company’s announcement of the feature earlier that year.

The feature uses AI to build a digital wardrobe based on outfits captured in a user’s existing photos. Within the app, items can be filtered by category — including tops, bottoms, and jewelry — and mixed and matched to create different outfit combinations. Google has stated that wardrobe data is not shared with third parties, such as retailers.

The concept draws a comparison to a fictional digital closet depicted in the 1995 film “Clueless,” in which the main character uses a computerized system to organize and select outfits. Google’s implementation makes a similar tool available to a general consumer audience.

The virtual closet rollout is accompanied by several other Google Photos updates. A new Gemini Spark feature allows users to select, brighten, and share photos using a single text prompt, though it requires a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription in the U.S. The app’s Markup tool has also been updated to include a redacting pen for blurring sensitive information such as license plates, precision thickness sliders for sketches, and additional font options for text overlays.

Android users additionally gain access to a new set of photo filters called “Moods,” which apply stylized looks to images, including 35mm film and 2000s digicam aesthetics.
