Google Says AI Is Driving Highest Search Query Growth in Five Years
Alphabet says AI investments helped push year-over-year Search query growth to its highest rate in five years, including commercial queries. Q3 revenue rose 25% to $127.6B, while Cloud more than doubled to $30.7B.
Alphabet reported strong third-quarter 2026 earnings on October 28, 2026, with CEO Sundar Pichai crediting the company’s AI investments for a surge in search activity. “Our AI investments are driving overall Search query growth, including commercial queries,” Pichai said. “In fact, our year-over-year query growth rate is the highest it’s been in the last five years.”
Alphabet’s consolidated revenues for Q3 2026 reached $127.6 billion, a 25 percent increase year-over-year. Revenue from “Google Search & other” rose 12 percent year-over-year, while Google Cloud posted particularly strong growth, more than doubling to $30.7 billion — a 103 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The company also disclosed that YouTube Music and Premium have surpassed 150 million subscribers globally, though Alphabet noted that figure includes users on free trials.
The results suggest that AI features, rather than cannibalizing search traffic as some have speculated, may be contributing to increased user engagement with Google’s core search product. The record query growth rate could indicate that AI-enhanced search experiences are drawing more users or prompting existing users to search more frequently.
