Insurance technology company Guidewire announced in October 2026 that it is acquiring Hyperexponential, a U.K.-based AI underwriting startup, for $1.7 billion in cash. The deal is expected to close sometime in 2027.

The total value of the transaction could reach approximately $2 billion, with an additional $400 million in contingent capital tied to Hyperexponential hitting certain revenue targets.

Guidewire said the acquisition is intended to bring AI agents into the underwriting process, working alongside human employees to handle underwriting, analysis, and pricing decisions.

Founded in 2017 and backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Battery Ventures, Hyperexponential has raised nearly $90 million to date, according to PitchBook. The company reports that close to 600 insurers across 40 countries use its software. The $1.7 billion price tag represents a significant return for the startup’s investors relative to its total funding.
