Instinct Adds AI Agent to Group Chats, Including for Users Without an Account
Instinct’s shared agent can coordinate travel, tickets and carpools in one thread, including with participants who lack accounts. Personal agents require permission to connect, and the group agent stays siloed from personal accounts; Meta’s Muse lacks group chat support.
Instinct, the AI agent startup valued at $10 billion following its latest funding round, announced on October 5, 2026 that users can now add its AI agent to group chats — even if some participants haven’t signed up for the service.
The feature is designed to help groups coordinate tasks such as travel planning, event ticket purchases, fantasy league management, carpool organization, and holiday meal coordination. When added to a group chat, a shared Instinct agent joins and works on behalf of the entire group within that thread.
Instinct founder Noah Shinn outlined the privacy model on X. A user’s personal Instinct agent will request permission before connecting with the group’s agent, and users can designate which groups they trust and revoke that trust at any time. The group agent is siloed from users’ personal accounts and cannot access them. The personal agent will also hold any pending replies if new members join the group chat, until the user grants permission to share.
“Making plans with friends usually turns into a frustrating back-and-forth over times and places. With Instinct in the group, you can explore options together, agree on a plan and get it done, all in one thread,” Shinn wrote.
The launch positions Instinct ahead of its main competitor, Meta’s Muse, which does not yet offer group chat functionality. Meta’s older product, Meta AI, can be added to group chats on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook. Both Instinct and Muse have recently added the ability to make phone calls as they compete for consumer AI market share. Last week, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Dots, personal AI agents that can operate within collaborative workspaces called ChatGPT Spaces.
Group chat support is currently available to Instinct’s early access users and will expand to all users “soon.” Users can ask their personal Instinct agent to be added to the early access list.
