Lambda Raises $1 Billion in Debt to Buy Nvidia Chips for Microsoft Lease
Lambda secured $1B in private short-dated debt arranged by JP Morgan Chase to buy Nvidia AI chips it will lease to Microsoft, Bloomberg reported Aug. 28, 2026. The financing follows a May 2026 $1B secured credit facility and a $926M loan for Nvidia GB300 GPUs, with talks for $3B pre-IPO funding.
AI cloud company Lambda has secured $1 billion in private, short-dated debt to purchase Nvidia AI chips that it will lease to Microsoft, Bloomberg reported on August 28, 2026. The deal was arranged by JP Morgan Chase.
Lambda’s business model centers on buying computing chips and renting them out to businesses. The short-dated nature of the debt suggests the company expects to deploy the chips quickly, generate revenue from them, and repay the loan using that incoming cash.
This latest financing is part of a broader pattern of debt-funded expansion at Lambda. In May 2026, the company closed a $1 billion secured credit facility. This week, it also announced the closing of a $926 million loan to fund Nvidia GB300 GPUs — one of Nvidia’s newest chip models — for a deployment it is under contract to provide to Nvidia directly.
Lambda is also reportedly in talks for a $3 billion pre-IPO funding round. The company last raised $1.5 billion in venture capital in November 2025, at a $5.43 billion post-money valuation, according to PitchBook data.
Lambda is not alone in using debt to fund AI infrastructure. Banks and tech companies have raised more than $400 billion in AI-related debt globally in 2026 so far, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The figures underscore the significant capital requirements driving the current AI buildout.
