Lambda Seeks $4 Billion at $14.5 Billion Valuation Ahead of 2027 IPO
Lambda’s investor backlog surged from $15 billion in June to $50 billion in September, but $35 billion comes from a single Anthropic commitment. The Nvidia-backed company is also raising $1 billion in debt for data centers ahead of a planned 2027 IPO.
AI cloud provider Lambda is raising up to $4 billion at a $14.5 billion pre-money valuation in what could be its final private funding round before a planned 2027 IPO, according to The Wall Street Journal. Coatue Management and Blackstone are leading the round, announced in October 2026.
Lambda’s investor backlog grew sharply from $15 billion in June to $50 billion in September. However, much of that growth stems from a single source: a $35 billion commitment from AI lab Anthropic, which signed a deal with Lambda in late August. That concentration means Lambda’s rising valuation could depend heavily on Anthropic’s continued ability to pay.
The company, which is backed by Nvidia, also raised an additional $1 billion in debt financing last week to help fund data center construction. Data center buildouts for neoclouds like Lambda are largely debt-financed, and lenders are becoming more selective about terms and borrowers.
Lambda was reportedly expected to go public this year but pushed back its IPO timeline amid market uncertainty. Raising capital now gives the company additional runway before facing the scrutiny of public markets and allows it to help set its IPO pricing expectations.
If Lambda does go public, it would join other Nvidia-backed neoclouds — including CoreWeave and Nebius — that rely on their stock performance to fund ongoing data center expansion. British neocloud Nscale filed for an IPO last month and is expected to begin trading soon.
For Lambda and its peers, the core challenge is not demand for GPU capacity, which remains scarce and sought-after, but the cost and financing required to meet it. Lambda, Coatue, and Blackstone did not respond to requests for comment.
