Meta to End Quest 2 and Quest Pro OS Updates in Early 2027

Meta’s final OS update for Quest 2 and Quest Pro will be version 213 by March 2027, with security patches and critical fixes continuing through the end of 2027. Quest 3/3S are now the baseline ahead of Meta VR Glasses, due spring 2027.

Meta announced in November 2026 that it will stop releasing operating system updates for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets by March 2027. The final OS update for both devices is planned to be version 213.

After that cutoff, Meta says it will continue delivering security patches and critical bug fixes through the end of 2027. Developers will also be able to submit apps supporting the Quest 2 and Quest Pro through December 2027.

Alongside the announcement, Meta named the Quest 3 and Quest 3S as “the baseline for Meta VR gamers,” signaling a shift in the company’s platform focus. Meta framed the transition by noting that apps built for the Quest 3 and 3S carry forward to its upcoming Meta VR Glasses, which share the same operating system and software development kits.

“Quest 2 and Quest Pro laid the foundation for this platform, and millions of people still play on them,” Meta said. “Quest 3 and Quest 3S give your apps more performance headroom and mixed reality built in, and apps built for them carry forward to Meta VR Glasses, which run on the same OS and SDKs.”

The announcement comes ahead of the planned launch of Meta VR Glasses, which are set to release sometime in spring 2027. The timing suggests the company may be aligning its platform support lifecycle with the introduction of its next hardware generation.

For current Quest 2 and Quest Pro owners, the changes mean their devices will continue to receive limited maintenance support through 2027, but will no longer receive new OS features after March of that year.
