Microsoft 365 Family Plans to Share Copilot AI Access With All Members Starting in 2026

Microsoft announced in October 2026 that it will extend Copilot and AI features to all members on Microsoft 365 Family and Premium subscription plans — not just the primary account holder. The change allows up to five additional people on a plan to access AI benefits, Office apps, and OneDrive storage.

The update was outlined in an email to existing Microsoft 365 Family and Premium subscribers, seen by The Verge. The changes will roll out over the coming months and include three main components: shared AI access across the plan, more flexible AI usage allowances, and revised cloud storage terms.

On the AI side, subscribers will be able to share Copilot benefits with other plan members and manage AI access for younger family members. Individual AI feature limits will also shift to a single shared AI usage allowance that can be applied to whichever advanced features a subscriber uses most. Microsoft will also offer the option to purchase additional AI usage as needed — a change that could mean higher costs for some heavy Copilot users depending on how they consume the service.

The storage changes represent a notable shift. Microsoft is moving from 1TB of OneDrive storage per person to a shared pool of 2TB across the entire plan. Each member retains a separate account with private files, but the total storage available to a family plan will drop significantly compared to the previous per-person model. The storage change takes effect after each subscriber’s first renewal following May 2, 2027. Microsoft notes that existing subscribers in eligible markets may qualify for transitional bonus storage.

The announcements come roughly one year after Microsoft 365 Premium launched at $19.99 per month, combining Copilot Pro benefits with a Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
