Microsoft Is Ending Copilot Support on LG and Samsung Smart TVs in 2026

An on-screen notice on Zac Bowden’s LG webOS TV says Microsoft Copilot support for all TVs will end during 2026, though no specific date is set. The assistant offered chats, on-screen content questions, and recommendations on LG and Samsung sets.

Microsoft is discontinuing its Copilot AI assistant on smart TVs, ending a feature that LG and Samsung introduced to their televisions following a joint announcement at CES 2025.

The news surfaced not through an official statement from Microsoft, LG, or Samsung, but via an on-screen notification that appeared on a webOS-powered LG TV belonging to Windows Central’s Zac Bowden. The message read: “Microsoft has recently decided to end support for Copilot functionality on all TVs, including the Copilot-enabled feature available on our LG TVs. As a result, the Copilot-enabled feature on your TV is no longer available and may stop functioning shortly.” The notification states the feature is “scheduled for discontinuation during 2026,” with a specific end date described as “subject to Microsoft’s timeline.”

On LG and Samsung smart TVs, Microsoft Copilot functioned as an AI-powered companion that users could chat with, ask questions about on-screen content, and use to get TV show and movie recommendations.

The discontinuation follows a rocky history for Copilot on LG televisions. Last December, an update to LG’s webOS added an unremovable Microsoft Copilot shortcut that launched the AI assistant’s web app in a browser. After users pushed back against the change being made without their approval, LG eventually allowed the shortcut to be deleted.

Microsoft’s decision may reflect a broader strategic shift. Earlier in 2026, the company introduced a Copilot “super app” bundling chat, agents, and coding into a single interface, positioning the product more as a business and productivity tool rather than a consumer-facing digital companion — a direction that appears to leave smart TV integration behind.
