OnlyFans Creators Criticize Meta for Allowing AI Agent Muse to Sext While Restricting Their Accounts
Meta allows its 18+-only Muse app to generate explicit sexual text in private chats, while creators say Instagram restricts their accounts. OnlyFans creator Vanniall, whose NYC-based account has 100,000+ followers, called the policy unfair.
Adult content creators are pushing back against Meta in 2026 after the company confirmed its AI agent, Muse, is permitted to engage in explicit sexual conversations with users — while many of those same creators say their accounts on Meta’s social platforms remain restricted.
Vanniall, an OnlyFans creator based in New York City, told WIRED her Instagram account — which has over 100,000 followers — is currently restricted and cannot be viewed without logging in. She described a constant cycle of reports and appeals with the platform. Upon learning that Meta allows Muse to engage in explicit sexting, she said: “It’s not fair that they get to pull money out of people with their sexually active AI agent, but they won’t let real people, real adults, engage in any sort of sensuality or sexuality.”
Muse is Meta’s always-on AI agent, available through a standalone app that functions like a messaging thread. Users can give the assistant access to personal data such as calendars and email, and the app is restricted to users 18 and older. Meta has said it would not “block legal adult behavior” on the platform. Muse generates explicit text but not images or videos.
Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton offered a distinction between the two contexts: “A private, one-to-one conversation between an adult and an individualized AI agent on a platform restricted to people 18 and over is very different from the marketing and promotion of services on a social media platform.”
The Muse app reached the top of download charts during its first month, aided by Meta’s broad distribution network across Instagram and Facebook.
The tension highlights a potential double standard that could draw further scrutiny as AI-generated adult content becomes more commercially viable. Adult creators have found more accommodating platforms elsewhere — X and Bluesky both permit sexually explicit content — but Meta’s Instagram remains a key channel for audience growth that many say they cannot fully access.
