Privacy-Focused AI Assistant Ollie to Shut Down November 6

Ollie will shut down on November 6, 2026, after co-founder Bill Lennon said the privacy-focused assistant could not raise enough capital to compete with Muse, Instinct, and others. The startup had raised a $7.5 million seed round led by Khosla Ventures.

Ollie, a subscription-based AI assistant built around user privacy, is shutting down on November 6, 2026. Co-founder and CEO Bill Lennon announced the closure on X, citing an inability to raise the capital needed to compete in a crowded AI assistant market.

“We got close, but ultimately couldn’t keep up,” Lennon wrote. “With Muse, Instinct, and others entering the space, it became harder to stand out, grow, and raise the capital we needed to succeed.”

Ollie was designed to help families stay connected and organized, connecting to users’ email and calendars while offering appointment bookings, meal planning, and bill payments. The company had also planned to expand into household budgeting. Ollie raised a $7.5 million seed round led by Khosla Ventures, which it discussed with TechCrunch in September 2026.

The app distinguished itself by achieving SOC 2 certification, an independently audited privacy compliance standard, making it one of the first mainstream apps to do so. Despite that distinction, Lennon acknowledged that privacy has not proven to be a reliably profitable differentiator in the tech industry.

Lennon credited his team and backers in his announcement. “I’m really proud of what we accomplished,” he said. “We built an incredible personal assistant with a small team, and learned a ton. I’m grateful to our amazing team, our users, our investors, and everyone who supported us on this journey.”

Ollie’s closure comes as the text-based AI assistant market has expanded rapidly over the past year, driven by increasingly capable underlying models. The company’s exit suggests that privacy-first positioning may struggle to gain traction when competing against better-funded entrants in the space.

Existing Ollie customers will receive instructions on how to export their data and obtain refunds in the coming days, Lennon said.
