Snap Unveils New Features for $2,200 Specs Smart Glasses After Troubled Launch
Snap is repositioning Specs around software, adding HBO Max, Spotify and Specs Intelligence, an “anticipatory AI” system linking apps and devices to manage tasks. Specs for Enterprise adds MDM and security controls, with Amazon, Salesforce and Nvidia.
Snap held an event in Los Angeles in September 2026 to announce a range of new features for its Specs smart glasses, as the company works to recover from a rocky debut earlier this year that sent its stock falling and prompted calls for CEO Evan Spiegel to resign.
At the event, Spiegel led live demonstrations of the new updates. Specs can now connect with HBO Max and Spotify for entertainment. The company also launched Specs Intelligence, which it describes as an “anticipatory AI” system that builds an understanding of a user’s goals, routines, and relationships by connecting with apps and devices — including iPhones and Macs — to help users manage tasks and priorities. Spiegel called it an “AI native operating system with intelligence designed around your projects.”
Snap also announced Specs for Enterprise, a program aimed at integrating the glasses into corporate workflows. The company revealed partnerships with Amazon, Salesforce, and Nvidia, among others. A demo video highlighted a potential use case for IT technicians repairing hardware with the glasses’ assistance. Spiegel said the program includes mobile device management and security controls for IT departments.
Additional announcements included an NBA and WNBA partnership for an AR basketball practice app, and a new cellular connectivity package sold separately through a partnership with Verizon. That package, which includes a charging case with built-in cellular, costs $10 per month for Verizon customers and $20 per month for non-Verizon customers.
The Specs glasses, which cost $2,200, have faced criticism over their price and design since launch. Snap has framed the device as a wearable computer rather than a consumer gadget. The company plans a Specs pop-up in Los Angeles in October ahead of a wider shipping window later in fall 2026. Whether the new features will be enough to drive consumer or enterprise adoption remains unclear.
