Spotify Users Can Now Play Music Through Siri Without Saying “On Spotify

On iOS 27, Siri can route requests to Spotify without users saying “on Spotify,” including podcast searches, library playback, recommendations, and AI Prompted Playlists. The feature requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later and Apple Intelligence; EU users aren’t supported.

Spotify announced on October 13, 2026, that iPhone users running iOS 27 can now ask Siri to play music, podcasts, and other content through Spotify without specifying the app by name.

Previously, users had to include “on Spotify” in their voice requests for Siri to route audio to the app. Now, requests like “play workout music” or “play my DJ” will automatically go to Spotify if it is the user’s preferred streaming app. Siri learns which music app a user favors over time and routes audio requests accordingly.

The change extends beyond basic playback. Users can also ask Siri to request personalized recommendations, resume podcasts, search their library, or create a Prompted Playlist using AI — all without specifying the app.

Spotify says the update is intended to make hands-free listening feel more natural, allowing users to focus on what they want to hear rather than how to phrase a request to reach their preferred app.

The feature is available globally but comes with hardware and software requirements. It works only on iPhone 15 Pro or later models, requires iOS 27, and depends on Apple Intelligence being enabled in Settings. Users in the European Union are not currently supported.
