TikTok announced on Monday, October 5, 2026, that it is launching an AI-powered shopping assistant and a one-click in-app checkout feature that lets users buy products directly from brands without leaving the app.

The new Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent designed to help users discover and purchase products. According to TikTok, the assistant understands context, remembers user preferences throughout a conversation, and provides real-time guidance on product details, sizing, availability, shipping information, and purchase completion. The one-click checkout feature allows users to buy directly from a brand while scrolling their For You feed — the app’s main algorithm-driven video feed.

The features are being built in partnership with commerce and payment platforms including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe, among others.

While TikTok Shop, the platform’s existing in-house marketplace launched in the U.S. in September 2023, has been the primary driver of the company’s e-commerce efforts, these new tools extend shopping capabilities more broadly into the app itself. TikTok also appears to be aiming to keep users within its platform when they have product questions, rather than having them turn to outside AI tools such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The expansion could allow TikTok to capture more of users’ shopping journeys and transaction value without redirecting them to external sites. By pairing a shopping assistant with direct payments in the discovery feed, the platform may be positioning itself as a place where users can research and buy products in a single session.

The move comes as TikTok’s role in U.S. commerce continues to grow. The company’s Economic Impact Report, released last week, stated that activity on the platform helped generate $81 billion in GDP for U.S. businesses, and that 54 million Americans had purchased a product after watching a TikTok video. Market research firm eMarketer estimates TikTok Shop generated approximately $15.8 billion in U.S. sales in 2025, representing roughly 18% of all U.S. social commerce.
