Uber Expands ChatGPT Work Rollout to All 30,000 Employees

After a 1,000-worker pilot, Uber is making ChatGPT Work available to all 30,000 employees globally. About 80% of early adopters were non-engineers, using it to analyze operations data, localize training and build dashboards.

Uber has expanded its use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work to its entire global workforce of 30,000 employees, the two companies announced on October 22, 2026. The ride-share company had previously run a smaller pilot of the enterprise AI tool with 1,000 workers earlier in the year.

ChatGPT Work, introduced in July 2026, is an enterprise-focused AI agent designed for corporate teams to deploy across various workflows. Uber’s initial pilot spanned multiple departments — including finance, operations, and product — and was used predominantly by non-technical staff. Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s VP of engineering, told TechCrunch that roughly 80% of early adopters were non-engineers.

Those employees used the tool for tasks such as analyzing operational data to identify trends, localizing training materials across languages and markets, and building personalized dashboards to manage daily work, according to Sukumar.

Uber has not defined a fixed approach for how employees companywide will use the tool going forward. “Our approach is to make powerful AI tools available across Uber while giving teams room to experiment,” Sukumar said. He noted that earlier this year the company paired 30 AI engineers with teams across the business for two weeks to automate key parts of their jobs — an initiative Uber called “AI pods.”

The company did not disclose the cost of the expanded rollout. Sukumar said Uber plans to track employee usage, the workflows developed, and overall effectiveness to guide future AI deployment decisions. OpenAI worked closely with Uber on the integration, according to the announcement.

The deal represents a significant expansion of OpenAI’s enterprise business. The company has been moving to grow its corporate customer base as it competes with rival AI firm Anthropic, according to the source report.
