YouTube Music Adds AI Chat and Podcast Discovery Tools for Premium Subscribers
Ask Music will answer natural-language requests using a catalog of more than 300 million songs, including remixes, live recordings and DJ sets. Your Podcast Lineup will deliver weekly spoken previews of recommended shows to Premium subscribers worldwide.
YouTube announced two new AI-powered features for YouTube Music in September 2026: “Ask Music,” a conversational search tool, and “Your Podcast Lineup,” a personalized podcast discovery guide. Both were unveiled at the company’s Made On YouTube event and are coming soon to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide.
Ask Music is built directly into the YouTube Music app and lets users describe what they want to hear in plain language rather than searching for specific songs or artists. It draws on a catalog of more than 300 million songs, including official recordings, remixes, live performances, covers, and DJ sets. Users can ask it to build custom listening queues, explore an artist’s background, or dig into music history — for example, requesting a mix based on the tracks that inspired a particular song, or asking who played bass on a recording.
Your Podcast Lineup addresses a separate challenge: the difficulty of keeping up with new podcast episodes and discovering new shows. The feature appears on the podcast page within the YouTube Music app and delivers a short spoken preview each week of recommended shows, explaining why each might appeal to the listener before moving directly into suggested episodes.
The additions are part of YouTube’s broader effort to integrate AI across its services. Last year, YouTube Music tested AI-powered music hosts that offered stories, fan trivia, and commentary alongside playback. Spotify has also moved in a similar direction, recently introducing a feature that uses AI to generate podcast episodes based on user interests and prompts.
YouTube has not specified an exact launch date for either feature beyond describing them as “coming soon.”
