AI marketing startup Profound announced in September 2026 that it has raised a $180 million Series D at a $1.8 billion valuation, reaching unicorn status less than seven months after closing a $96 million Series C.
Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins led the round, with existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures, and South Park Commons also participating.
Founded two years ago, Profound builds software that helps brands appear in AI-generated search results. The company began as an analytics platform before expanding into tools that help businesses research and develop marketing strategies — specifically focused on how AI systems influence the way consumers discover products and brands.
Profound operates in the GEO/AEO space — generative engine optimization and answer engine optimization — a growing category of startups working to help companies surface their products within the AI-powered search tools that consumers are increasingly using in place of traditional search engines.
The company reports that its revenue has grown 3x over the past six months. It now counts more than 1,000 enterprise customers, including Comcast, The Estée Lauder Companies, and Walmart.
The rapid back-to-back fundraising rounds suggest strong investor demand for companies operating at the intersection of AI and digital marketing. As more consumers turn to AI systems for product discovery, tools that help brands navigate and optimize for those platforms may see continued commercial traction.
