Spotify is launching Studio, a standalone AI app that generates personalized daily briefings, podcasts, and playlists for users on PC. The app, developed by Spotify Labs, was announced in 2026 and is set to roll out “in the coming weeks” as a research preview for users aged 18 and older.
Studio pulls from a user’s Spotify listening history and can connect to external apps such as email inboxes, calendars, and notes to tailor its output. According to Spotify, the AI can also “take action on your behalf,” including “researching topics, using a web browser, organizing information, and helping complete tasks.” Content generated in Studio, such as a daily briefing podcast, can be saved directly to a user’s Spotify library. The app is limited to generating briefings, podcasts, and playlists — it does not produce music.
Spotify is also rolling out additional AI podcast features. Starting today, Premium users can access a chatbot that answers questions about podcasts they are currently listening to, including locating timestamps for specific topics within an episode. Next month, Spotify plans to launch Personal Podcasts, a feature built directly into the main Spotify app that generates AI episodes based on user prompts. Spotify has also recently enabled users to save AI-generated podcasts from OpenClaw and Claude to their libraries.
Spotify is not alone in this space. Google has offered a similar feature through NotebookLM since 2024, and Amazon and Microsoft have launched comparable AI podcast tools in Alexa Plus and the Edge browser, respectively. However, Spotify’s existing user base already comes to the platform specifically for audio content, which may position it differently among these competitors.
The broader adoption of AI-generated podcasts remains uncertain. Some users report using such features to catch up on news or explore new topics quickly, but current usage levels across platforms are unclear.
