TikTok announced on Thursday, September 3, 2026, that it is rolling out a set of new interactive features for its comment sections, including voice comments, comment polls, photo carousel comments, and Live Photo comments.
The updates are designed to make TikTok’s comment sections more engaging. According to the company, the goal is to turn comments into spaces where users linger and interact with one another, rather than simply leave feedback beneath a video.
Voice comments allow users to tap a microphone icon in the comment box and record an audio message of up to one minute. Once posted, any user can tap to listen. TikTok said voice comments are subject to the same Community Guidelines as other content on the platform, with enforcement handled through a combination of human reviewers and automated tools, including speech-to-text transcription. Voice comments are rolling out globally over the next month and are limited to users aged 18 and older.
Creators can now add polls when commenting on their own videos — a feature previously available to some users that is now available globally. Polls support up to five options, allow creators to set a voting timeframe, and display results directly in the comment section. TikTok suggested polls could be used for decisions such as choosing a next video topic, selecting an outfit, or picking a recipe.
Photo carousel comments now let users include up to nine photos in a single comment, up from one previously. TikTok is also introducing Live Photo comments, which display a brief motion preview before the full image loads. Live Photo comments are available globally now, while photo carousel comments are rolling out globally over the next month.
The additions suggest TikTok is drawing on features common to messaging apps as it looks to deepen user engagement on its platform.
