Universal Music Group announced in September 2026 that it is launching an AI-powered music platform developed in partnership with ElevenLabs, a company specializing in AI voice and music generation. The platform will allow users to draw from UMG’s licensed catalog to create song remixes, mashups, and new takes on existing tracks.
The two companies are operating under a multi-year licensing agreement. Beyond the initial platform, UMG and ElevenLabs say their partnership will also include the “development of additional products and fan experiences in the months and years to come,” though neither company provided further details on what those might involve.
ElevenLabs CEO Mati Staniszewski framed the deal as a way to benefit artists directly. “By combining UMG’s global community and rights management expertise, with our AI models and products, we’ll enable artists and songwriters to create powerful new experiences for their fans, and ensure they are fairly compensated,” he said in the press release.
The new platform will operate separately from ElevenLabs’ existing Music API and ElevenMusic generator products.
The partnership brings together UMG’s catalog and rights management infrastructure with ElevenLabs’ AI generation technology. For artists and rights holders, the agreement suggests a licensing-based model for AI music creation — one that could address ongoing concerns in the music industry about how AI-generated content intersects with copyright and artist compensation.
