A new iPhone alarm app called Clucky launched in September 2026, offering users the option to be woken up by a crowing rooster and requiring them to complete a challenge before the alarm can be turned off.
Clucky was founded by Adrian Angelo Abelarde, a former software engineer at Fanatics. The app is available on the App Store, with a pro subscription priced at $39.99 per year.
The app targets habitual snoozers by making alarm dismissal deliberately demanding. Wake-up missions include solving math problems, memorizing and tapping tiles in a specific order, typing dictated phrases, shaking the phone, walking, doing push-ups, tilting a ball toward a goal, and completing an AI camera challenge. For users who prefer a less jarring start, the app also offers gentle chimes, peaceful bird sounds, and a classic digital beep. An “Extra Loud Mode” increases volume immediately when the alarm sounds.
Clucky joins an existing category of challenge-based alarm apps that includes Alarmy and Awake, which use similar mechanics to prevent users from going back to sleep after dismissing an alarm.
Beyond alarms, the app includes a stats section tracking how long it takes users to complete a mission, total missions completed, and total wake-ups. A weekly feature called the “Rooster Report” grades a user’s wake-up performance. Users can also create a “Nest” or “Flock” — private alarm groups with friends or family — to wake up simultaneously and hold each other accountable.
For people who struggle to stay awake after turning off an alarm, Clucky’s mission-based approach may offer a more effective alternative to standard alarm apps, though its long-term impact on users’ routines remains to be seen.
